STAAL, Aukje Staal

Hamilton, Ontario – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aukje (Annette) Staal, at 78 years old, on May 6, 2026, peacefully with family by her side.

Born November 12, 1947, in Aduard, the Netherlands, Aukje was predeceased by her beloved parents, Trientje Staal-Huizenga and Andries Staal, and sister, Greetje Staal.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings, Tineke Staal, Kees Staal, and Charlotte Tjaar. She was a devoted and loving mother to Milena Dobric, Alexandra Dobric (Al Dosant), and David Dobric, and a proud and adoring Oma to her cherished grandchildren, Jonas Bagg and Stephen Bagg.

In 1971, Aukje immigrated to Canada, where she built a life centered around her family and raising her three children. Her Christian faith and church involvement were central to her life, guiding her values and offering her peace at the end of her life. Aukje worked at Credit Valley Hospital and was admired for her work ethic and compassion for others. With her brilliant and creative mind, she found joy in gardening, sewing, knitting, drawing, solving Sudoku puzzles and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Aukje had a deep love for classical music and opera. She travelled the world and was blessed to see so many beautiful places on earth.

As Oma, she created lasting memories with her grandchildren through afternoons spent in the pool, bike rides, teaching them her favourite dice games and lovingly caring for them at every opportunity she had. She loved her “princes” and proudly shared their accomplishments with strangers and friends alike.

She was never one to sit still, always ready to support friends, family, and even strangers with kindness and generosity. Her heart was truly big and selfless, and her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
