STARTEK, Gerald Edward Startek

Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday 13 May 2026, at the age of 82. Gerry, AKA Star, had a knack for planning including writing his own obituary, which we share here: I had a phone call last night. It was the Lord. He said my room was ready and he had a special assignment for me. I will be really happy to see Gerald Edward Startek again.

I’ll miss my children of whom I was so proud: Jennifer and Chris. But most of all, I’ll miss my two beautiful granddaughters Emma and Quinn. They were my angels here on earth. After Pat left, they were the girls who kept my spirits up. I hope the assignment the Lord has for me is to watch over these ladies.

To my siblings: Karen (Mark), Linda (Peter), Ed (Sandi), Rick (Suzanne) – we really were family.

Thank you to my sister-in-law Susan (Gary) and brother-in-law Bob (Theresa).

To my cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends, take care of yourselves. To my volunteer friends at St. Gertrude’s, Lakeridge Hospital, Cancer Society, Durham Police, Neighbourhood Watch, St. Vincent’s Kitchen, and Knights of Columbus, it was a pleasure working with you.

To Drs. Marcoux and Hepburn (Julie), thank you. And to General Motors of Canada for taking care of my family all these years, I appreciate you.

Take care…and be good to one another.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Critical Care Unit at Lakeridge Oshawa, his friends at Royal Heights and from Brunswick Street, his coffee gang, his church friends, and all who supported Dad especially during these last five years without Mom. Visitation will take place at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday May 22, 2026 from 2 – 5 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Services will be held at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church, 690 King St. E., Oshawa on Saturday May 23, 2026 at 11 am. The service will also be livestreamed.
