THAJER, Horst Gerhard Thajer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Horst Thajer on January 14th, 2026 at Lakeridge Bowmanville at the age of 86 surrounded by his family. He worked for General Motors and retired after 42 years of service to his cottage on Big Cedar Lake with wife Barbara. He lived for his family and made many special memories there.

Known for his generosity, warmth and sense of humour, Horst gave back to the community whenever possible collecting items for the food bank, and you could always see him in the morning waving to the children on their way to school. A heartfelt thanks goes to the staff at the Seasons Retirement Home in Bowmanville who treated him with respect and dignity and made his last few years very happy.

Horst will be lovingly remembered by his son Daniel (Theresa Dawn), grandchildren Curtis (Shanice), Deirdre (Austen), Jade Lepine (Jay), Lyric Thajer, great grandchildren Nixon, Weston and Layne, siblings Frank (Jessie), Mary Lou (Joe), Gerhart “Mo” and numerous other family members and friends. Horst was pre-deceased by his parents Franz and Antonie, wife Barbara, son Stephen and his brother Bill.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and the ashes shared with family members.

A celebration of life for immediate family will be held at a future date in the backyard of Daniel Thajers home where Horst loved to spend time admiring the gardens and abundance of flowers.
