THOMLINSON, Kathryn May Thomlinson
May 7, 1959 - August 24, 2025
passed away suddenly yet peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on August 24, 2025.
Born in Toronto on May 7, 1959, Kathie is survived by her loving husband Rob, her cherished son Connor (Jeanice), and her brother Michael (Judy). She was predeceased by her parents, Jennie and Joseph Kociumbas, and her youngest brother Chris Kociumbas.
Kathie grew up in Mississauga and as a child practiced ballet, loved horseback riding, numerous sports and playing the piano, which led to her lifelong appreciation of music and attending concerts. Kathie enjoyed visiting with her maternal grandmother, was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and learned how to prepare her favourite Ukrainian foods with her grandmother. She kept these recipes alive and was an excellent cook/baker, making sure her family was always taken care of and well fed. She was especially grateful that her Baba lived long enough to spend precious time with her great grandson Connor.
From a young age, Kathie was outgoing and nurturing, always looking out for her brother Michael. She was also a founding member of the infamous Cat Eyes Club with her best friends, a friendship that endures today.
Kathie earned a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree from the University of Waterloo. Over the course of more than 40 years, she built a meaningful career in medical research as a Laboratory Technologist before finding her true passion in teaching a Laboratory Technician program, where she inspired countless students.
She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and compassion. Kathie had a deep love of nature and gardening, and she shared her life with many beloved dogs. Her love of travel took her to many countries, where she was often seen feeding stray animals. To all who knew her, Kathie embodied kindness, touching countless lives with her gentle spirit. Her legacy of love and service will live on through her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home (Whitby). Gathering will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. and a reception. All are welcome.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Kingston General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation of Canada (https://www.bafound.org/support-baf-canada/) or The Humane Society of Ontario.
Kathie’s memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her.
