THOMPSON , Frederick Thompson

It is with deep sadness that the family of Frederick Thompson announce his passing.

Frederick “Fred” was a dedicated spouse, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Fred passed away peacefully in his sleep in the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Palliative Care Unit on July 31, 2025.

Fred was born to Harry and Nelly Thompson in Renfrew, Ontario on November 3, 1938 and grew up in Oshawa where he continued to reside at the time of his passing. Fred married Delphine Harmer on June 2, 1962 and together they raised two daughters.

Fred was a very active person and participated in several sports over the years. You could find him riding with the Oshawa cycling club, playing racket ball, bowling with his league, golfing, playing darts and lawn bowling. Wherever you found him, he would greet you with a smile. Fred was also an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Oshawa.

Fred was preceded in death by his father Harry and mother Nelly Thompson as well as his wife Delphine, and his sisters Betty Clark, Shirley Henning, and Edith Thompson. He is survived by his daughters Justine Thompson-Clarkin (Bryan), and Erin Hainey, granddaughter Hope Clarkin, grandson Liam Hainey, brother and sister-in-law Paul and Barbara Widdifield , brother-in-law Walter Harmer and his partner Maureen Lamont. At Fred’s request, in his final wishes, there will be no funeral by his immediate family. He wishes to be remembered as he was in life – a loving father, dedicated friend and cherished husband. He will be forever loved and missed.
