THORNE, Sandra Thorne

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Chapman House on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Born in Brantford on July 28, 1944, Sandra Jacqualine Thorne (nee Sprung) of Owen Sound was in her 82nd year.

Beloved wife for 47 years of the late George Thorne. Loving mother of Deborah Johnston (late Gord) of Lindsay and Jeffrey Thorne (Dori) of Clarksburg. Cherished Gramma of Justin (Sylvie), Emily (late Wade), Melissa, Sarah (Jerimiah) and David (Jess). Proud GG of Mavis, Raylan and Weston. Sandra will be dearly missed by her sister Nancy Tiley (late John) of Francis Lake, and by her many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sandra was the eldest daughter of the late Muriel (nee Doy) and late Alexander Sprung. She was predeceased by her younger brother Ronald Sprung.

Sandra had a deep love of travel and shared many treasured adventures to Europe, Australia, Alaska, and the Caribbean with her husband George and daughter Debbie. Sandra loved everything sports. She was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf and Blue Jays Fan and travelled to games in, Baltimore, Boston, New York, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Florida, Chicago, Las Vegas and Minnesota with her son Jeffrey, daughter Debbie and daughter in law Dori. She was always up for an adventure, but her heart always returned to her favourite place, Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Groen, Dr. O’Flaherty, and the compassionate staff and doctors at Brightshores Health System Owen Sound for their care and kindness. Finally, thank you to the staff and volunteers at Chapman House for giving us five beautiful days to celebrate a life well lived and give Sandra the send off she deserved and one we will never forget.

In keeping with Sandra’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
