UITVLUGT, Nellie Uitvlugt
March 4, 2026
She, a longtime resident of Ridgetown passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Trillium Villa in Sarnia on March 4, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born in Cappelle aan den IJssel, Holland, Nellie was the cherished daughter of the late Nicolaas and Macheltje (née Palsgraaf) Van Roon.
Nellie was the beloved wife of James, her devoted partner since their marriage on January 15, 1954.
She was a loving and dedicated mother to her late son Andy, 2014 (Deborah) Uitvlugt, Jim Uitvlugt, Mary (Roy) Robichaud, David (Maureen) Uitvlugt and Barry Uitvlugt. Nellie’s family was her greatest pride and joy, and she gave of herself endlessly to ensure they felt supported, cared for, and deeply loved.
Cherished Grandma to Jennifer Penfold (Sean), Jamie Uitvlugt, Joseph Robichaud (Destinee), Nicholas Uitvlugt (Sarah), Hannah Uitvlugt, Kelly Robichaud (Ryan), and Clinton Uitvugt (Jill), Nellie’s legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren: Sydney, Xander, Damion, Jayden, Kaylix, Logan, Blake, Oliver, Kynzie, Jaxen, Kai, Draven, Zachary, Makayla, and Hayden.
Nothing brought Nellie greater happiness than gathering her family close and watching it grow through the generations. She loved providing dinners for all, welcoming family and friends to her table with warmth and generosity, and took great pride in serving fresh foods from her garden. Soft-spoken by nature, Nellie believed deeply in being kind and in “getting busy living,” making the most of each day through simple acts of care, hard work, and quiet gratitude.
She also held a special place in her heart for her wonderful neighbours and friends, Ian and Nancy, whose kindness and companionship meant so much to her over the years.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Trillium Villa in Sarnia and to the Village on the Ridge in Ridgetown, for their care, kindness, and support.
Visitation for Nellie will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and support. A Funeral Service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Duart Cemetery.
Donations made in memory of Nellie to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Trillium Villa-Resident Counsel Committee would be appreciated by the family.
