VIEIRA, Fernando Fraga Vieira

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fernando Fraga Vieira on Sunday, April 19, at Humber River Hospital. A devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather, Fernando’s greatest joy in life was always his family.

Fernando was born on November 27, 1933, in Flores, Azores, Portugal. In the mid-1950s, he made the courageous journey to Canada in search of a better life, working tirelessly to build a future and later bring his beloved wife, Maria, to join him. Together, they started their life in downtown Toronto, raising their two sons before settling in Etobicoke, where they built a home with lasting memories. Fernando was known as the Mayor of Paulart Drive for his unwavering support towards his neighbours.

Fernando will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Maria; his sons, Walter (Sandra) and Richard (Cindy); and his treasured grandchildren, Jillian (Jordan), Anthony (Laura), Brandon (Aaron), Brent (Amanda), Mitchell (Jessica), and Mikaela (Mitch). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Evren and Rooney, who brought him so much happiness.

A man of simple pleasures, Fernando found peace and pride in his garden. He was known for growing one of the finest vegetable gardens around, and he took great care in making sure nothing went to wasteβ€”spending countless hours preserving and canning his harvest to share with those he loved. His garden was a reflection of who he was: hardworking, and generous.

He was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, cheering them on through every season, and after coming to Canada, he developed a fondness for North American country music, which often filled his car on long drives to see extended family.

More than anything, Fernando cherished time spent with his family. Whether it was sharing a meal, tending to his garden, or simply being together, those moments meant the most to him. His kind heart, and unwavering dedication to his family will never be forgotten.

Friends are invited to gather at Ridley Funeral Home (3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W., Etobicoke) on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for visitation. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
