WEATHERDON, Barrett Edgar Weatherdon

Passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in his 95th year. Predeceased by his parents, Edgar Hedley Weatherdon and Eida Jane Barrett, his sister, Joan Bendar in 2022, and his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Twyman) in 2014. Barry is survived by his sons Hugh, Neil (Nazneen) and Ross (Colleen), and his grandchildren: Camilla, Dylan, Rhys, Claire, Brynn, Paige, and Myles, whom he loved deeply and with pride.

Barrett Edgar Weatherdon was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1931, where he received his formal education and served in the United States Air Force, Barry moved to Canada in the mid-1950s to work with his uncles at Barrett Brothers Lumber, becoming a Canadian citizen in 1976. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Barry was the longstanding General Manager of Ottawa Neighbourhood Services, a non-profit organization that supported economically vulnerable Ottawans. Always wanting to give back to the community, Barry was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa for nearly 70 years, serving as President in 1968, as well as a member of the Ottawa Hunt Club, also for the same duration.

A mentor to many and a friend to all, Barry was highly respected and admired by those who knew him for his compassion, knowledge and sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by his family and the many friends and colleagues whom he profoundly impacted over the course of his rich life.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry – Central Chapel (315 McLeod Street) on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, and again on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Reception to follow.
