26 January, 1950 – 21 August, 2024
Susan Christine Whelan (nee Speller), aged 74 of Whitby passed away peacefully August 21, 2024.

Sue was the beloved wife of Michael Whelan for almost 50 years and loving mother to Anne Borrelly (Regis), Debbie Gillespie (Neil) and Matthew Whelan (Aikta)

Susan was a proud Moushka to her five adored grandchildren, Alexandre, Aymeric, Taralyn, Duncan and Oscar.

Susan is remembered by her mother Else Speller, siblings, Karen McLean, Debbie and Roger Speller, friends and extended family. She is predeceased by her father, Philip Speller.

Susan was born in Ottawa, ON, she grew up in Montreal, then Toronto, with her formative years spent in Westchester County, New York. After spending a few years in Paris, she eventually settled in Whitby to raise her family. Susan worked as a legal secretary and was a successful Mary Kay consultant in the 1980s.

Susan adored the ballet, good food and was a voracious reader. She loved her family more than anything and will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, and warm snuggles.

The family extends a huge thank you to staff at Oak Ridges’ Hospice in Port Perry for their care and support.

The family asks that in lieu of gifts, donations be made to Oak Ridges’ Hospice or the Recovery College at CAMH.

A visitation will take place Sunday, August 25th from 11am-1pm, followed by a celebration of life at 1pm and a reception for family and friends who wish to join us at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Durham Regional Hwy 2, Courtice, ON L1E 2R7.
