WILSON, Ruth Wilson
November 12, 1947 - December 5, 2025
Surrounded by her family at Headwaters Healthcare Centre in Orangeville on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the age of 78, Ruth passed away peacefully after a long, courageous battle with COPD.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Stan Wilson; her parents Earl and Charlotte Lanktree; brothers Bob (Lois) and Fred (Marjorie -2021) Lanktree and her twin sister Ruby. Loving and cherished mother of Kerri (Mike) Dennis and Aimee (Brendan) Clark. Adored Grandma/Grammie of Tori, Kelsie (Jacob), Madelyn and Evan. Ruth will also remain forever in the hearts of many other relatives and friends.
Ruth was a talented piano player, quilter, and an avid shopper. As her health declined over the years, she very much missed playing the hymns at the Laurel United and High County United churches, getting together with her quilting gals, and finding bargains during fun shopping trips with friends or out at garage sales with Stan.
Ruth was known for her love of music, shoes, and her sense of humour. Her witty sayings will forever live on through her daughters. But most of all, Ruth will be remembered for her gracefulness, her beautiful smile, and her love and deep devotion to her family.
Born in Orangeville, Ruth grew up on a farm just south of the village of Laurel, in Amaranth, where she helped with the chores, horses, and chickens. Occasionally, she would try and outrun a saucy gander in the farmyard who loved to chase her. Ruth’s love of animals continued throughout her life and lead to her companions in her later years, her faithful feline, Clark, and her talkative parrot, Ernie.
Ruth met Stan in early high school where they became high school sweethearts. They married in Laurel in 1968. Shortly after, they settled on a property across the road from Ruth’s childhood home where they raised their daughters and cared for their beautiful property for over 50 years. They created a beautiful home together until Stan’s tragic passing in a car accident in 2008.
Ruth’s resilience and love of her home they built together kept her there for as long as her health would allow her, with the generous assistance of family, friends, neighbours and the community who helped maintain her home so she could live in comfort.
The family would like to acknowledge Ruth’s many devoted friends who have provided comfort and support over the years. We are all eternally grateful for your friendship, kindness and love.
The family would also like to thank the Community Paramedics, Ruth’s nurses Sam and Yolanda, her PSW Nav, the Dufferin County EMS, Reverend Jan, Linda M for taking Ernie under her wing, the staff at Headwaters Healthcare Centre, and Dr. Klair for the compassionate care provided.
