WILTON, Gordon Reed Wilton

We are saddened to announce that Gordon Reed Wilton, born April 25 1932, passed away peacefully in his sleep June 22, 2025 at the age of 93

Gord was predeceased by his wife, Mary Wilton (nee Barke) the love of his life.

He is survived by his sister Marguerite and predeceased by sister Bernice (Howard) and brother Wesley (Terri).

Gord was the loving father to his children, Russell, Kenneth (Patti) and Sylvia (Mark) and he will be missed terribly by them

Gordie was the proud grandfather to Caitlin, Heather, Leanne, Sharon, Devon, Jennifer, Grayden and Tait and they will miss his care and constant interest he showed in their lives.

He will be missed and remembered fondly by his lifelong friends and their extended families and his many nieces and nephews.

Gord was born in Toronto. A challenging home environment had him move out on his own at the age of 14 and get a job as a copy boy at the Toronto Star. His work ethic never faltered and he was always thinking of interesting ideas and finding ways to improve life for Mary and his family.

He had many adventures in his long life; beginning with moving to BC to work as a logger at the age of 18, to building a 14′ sailboat in the basement of their newly acquired home in Etobicoke, to staking mining claims in northern Manitoba. Gord was a creative man who invented games and modified machinery to suit his needs and he liked to change the rules on standard games to make them more challenging (and more fun) for all.

Gord played a solid game of tennis but enjoyed a fast Masters level badminton match even more and developed lifelong friends on those courts. At home, he found time to coach several local soccer teams and the family front lawn was where the neighbourhood kids met if they wanted to play soccer, kick the can, badminton or maybe a game of ‘cut-off’ on bicycles.

The family thanks the staff of Shepherd’s Village and Circle of Care for their care and attention to Gord during his stay.

A Celebration of Gord’s Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please choose the charity of your choice and donate in his name.

Gord was probably working on how to change the rules of dying when he left us 😉
