WITMER, Fred Vernon Witmer
June 16, 1934 - May 2, 2026
He passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at the Village of Winston Park in Kitchener, at the age of 91.
Born on June 16, 1934, in Wilmot Township, Fred was the son of the late Vernon and Vinetta (Shantz) Witmer. He was the beloved husband of Marian Elizabeth (Sherk) Witmer, whom he married on September 8, 1956, sharing nearly 70 years of devoted marriage.
Fred Vernon Witmer was a loving father to Joan (Paul Doehn), James Witmer (Karen), and Bevin Witmer (Crystal). He was a cherished grandfather to Matthew (Sherri), Lindsay (Tom), Michael (Kendra), Jennifer (Chris), Andrew (Alex), Marc (Alex), Courtney (Luis), Alaina (Alex), and Lauren (Tristan), and a proud great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his siblings Margaret Hoover, Dorothy (Doug Phillips), and Glenn Witmer, and will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Lois, Alice, Carolyn, and brother-in-law Vernon (Leone). Fred was predeceased by his sister Marjorie (Ralph), brothers Robert and Ross (Rosario), brothers-in-law Merle, Allan, and Pete, and sister-in-law Kathryn.
Fred was a lifelong member of Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church in New Dundee, where he faithfully served on the church board. He was deeply committed to his faith, volunteering as a youth sponsor and Bible Quiz Master, guiding and encouraging many young people over the years.
He also contributed to his community through his involvement with the New Dundee Board of Trade. And was a member of the Jubilation Menβs Chorus for many years.
Fred had a passion for simple joys, he loved playing crokinole, and he took great pride in his woodworking and trim work. A true handyman, he was known for his ability to fix just about anything, from home renovations to plumbing and electrical work, often working alongside family.
Above all, Fred found his greatest joy in his family. His legacy of faith, dedication, and quiet generosity will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends may join the family at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 4 β 7 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Fredβs life will take place at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church. New Dundee, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Hamill officiating. For those unable to attend the funeral will be available livestreamed.
