TONEGUZZO, Giovanni - July 7, 1926 – December 31, 2021
Peacefully passed away, on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the age of 95, with his loving wife of 69 years, Pierina Toneguzzo and daughter Anna Toneguzzo (Ken Lindfors) by his side.
Sadly, Giovanni was predeceased in March 2018 by beloved son Joseph Toneguzzo (Anne Toneguzzo).
He was a proud Nonno and will be missed by his grandchildren Sacha Lacasse (Nancy St. Denis), Mark Toneguzzo (Paisley McNabb), Steven Toneguzzo (Tara Firchuk), Kaisa Lindfors, Teia Lindfors (Kaven Tremblay) and John Lindfors.
He is also Bisnonno (great-grandfather) to Clara Lacasse.
Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Luigia Toneguzzo and siblings Berto, Lindo, Giuseppe, Aldo, Adele and Atilio Toneguzzo.
Giovanni was born in Cordovado in Northern Italy.
He arrived in Canada in 1951 and immediately found work in his profession as a welder and worked his last 25 years at General Motors in St. Catharine's.
He and Pierina built their home and a happy life surrounded by family in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
They had a long retirement together, enjoying more time with their children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. In 2016, they moved to Ottawa to be closer to Anna after Giovanni fell ill and his dementia advanced.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Villa Marconi Long-Term Care Centre for the compassionate care provided to Giovanni over the last 4.5 years.
A private funeral service will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Gatineau (Aylmer), Quebec, on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. Virtual Viewing Arrangements with Tubman Funeral Homes. An in-person mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
