REED, Reverend Valerie Joyce - Passed away peacefully, at home, on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the age of 86.
Beloved wife of the late George Gilbert (2022).
Loving mother of Donna (Leigh), Catherine (Patrick), Maureen (Ron) and Michael (Zuzana).
Adored grandmother of Reed (Krista), Connor and Adam. Great-grandmother of Luna. Predeceased by mother, Emily Louise (nee Anderson) and father, Walter George Stonehouse; sister.
Rita Rae Hansen; and brother, Kenneth Allen Stonehouse. After 21 years as a homemaker and volunteer at church and various charities, Valerie answered the call to Ministry.
In 1978, she obtained her high school equivalency and continued her education, earning a Masters of Divinity at the University of Toronto.
In 1989, she was ordained as a Minister in the United Church of Canada, where she led worship in several Ontario churches. In 2001, Valerie changed her focus to interim Ministry, providing support to congregations in need. Valerie retired from the Ministry in 2008 and spent her time with her husband and family enjoying her golden years.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga, on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Applewood United Church, 2067 Stanfield Rd., Mississauga, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Reception following the Service. Interment Glen Oaks Cemetery.
