MACDONALD, Stanley - On Friday, May 12, 2023, Stanley Hugh Macdonald passed away, in Collingwood, Ontario (formerly from Etobicoke, Ontario).
Stanley lived his life by dedicating himself to charity, volunteering with many organizations and committing himself to the greater good.
Cherished husband of Lorna; father to Brock, Megan, Duncan, and daughter-in-law, Louise; and a special grandpa to Hunter, LeaRose and Lucy.
Stanley was brother to Ivan, Huntley and Jean, with whom he remained close over his 97 years.
Born in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia, Stanley served in the Canadian Armed Forces and attended Mount Allison University.
He launched a 50-year career serving at a remote research base in Churchill, Manitoba, before working at the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine at Downsview Airbase in Toronto.
The United Church was a very important part of our parents' life, and they dedicated themselves to faith, equality and charity. Stanley believed in civil rights and contributed to many women's social causes. There are many "Stan" stories that have become family folklore! Especially those of road trips, misadventures with many a car, Otty Lake, crab leg dinners, funny hats for every occasion and ringing the old sleigh bells every Christmas morning.
Our family will miss his unique approach to life and his steady presence.
The son of Hattie and Bruce Macdonald; brother to Ivan Macdonald, Huntley Macdonald (deceased) and Jean (Rolly) Lucy; and married for 61 years to Lorna Macdonald (deceased).
Stanley's wishes were that donations be made to the St. James United Church (Etobicoke) Food Bank.
