SYME, Velma "Val" Maxine (nee HARE) - Passed away with her daughter by her side on October 25, 2023, in Etobicoke.
Val was born to Laura (nee Drury) and Fredrick Hare in Creemore, Ontario.
Val lived most of her life in Etobicoke. Her young husband, Alan, passed away on February 2, 1971, leaving her to raise their 2 children, Gary and Lori.
Val was fortunate to meet Michael Standen who became her partner and helped raise Gary and Lori. Michael and Val spent many winters on cruises and warm vacation spots.
Val worked in various office jobs over the years with her last job for a children's charity which she loved.
All of her grandchildren, two generations of nieces and nephews as well as some neighbourhood kids, learned to swim in her pool. There are many wonderful memories of pool parties with family and friends. In Val's later years, she met Brian Ross and they shared many great summers at the cottage.
Val was very quick-witted and quick to laugh, enjoyed social outings and family gatherings. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan; son, Gary; and partners, Michael and Brian.
Left to miss her are: Lori (Michael); grandchildren: Michael Syme, Andrew (Rebecca), and Samantha (Mark); great-grandchildren: Grace, Olive and Benjamin Syme, Jackson and Ava Love and Raelyn Creighton.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
