Thorne LindaTHORNE, Linda   -  Linda died peacefully, at Kingston General Hospital on April 16, 2024, in her 81st year.

Predeceased by her father, Lloyd Earl Brain (1917-1952); her mother, Hilda Brain Thorne (née Barwise, 1919-2004); and stepfather, Donald Douglas Thorne (1910-1997).

Sadly missed by her Aunt Shirley Welham (née Barwise), many cousins, friends, neighbours, and former colleagues.

Born in Toronto, Linda worked in London, England, before studying at York and Carleton Universities, earning her Master of Public Administration, then joining the Department of Public Works, posted in Vancouver and Ottawa.

Linda had three passions: gardening, animals, and bringing people together. In 1990, she opened Thorne & Co. – a gardening and gift shop – on Bank Street in Ottawa.

She led memorable garden tours to Europe and served on the Canadian Tulip Festival and the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects boards, finally settling happily in Kingston. Family, friends, and colleagues will remember Linda's quick wit, sincere interest in their lives, and the sparkle in her eye when she laughed – which was often.

Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy, friends may consider donations to the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind.
