James ArthurJAMES, Arthur B.  -  Passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 after a valiant struggle with cancer.

He was the loving husband to Judy and devoted father to Scott (Sandra), Leanne (Iain) and Greg (Amanda).

Proud grandfather of Campbell, Matthew, Marley, Callum, Hayden, Ryder, Peter and Sebastian.

He will be sorely missed by his siblings Margaret Anne, Patty, Peter, and Mary; as well as his many extended family and friends.

Arthur grew up in Toronto and attended Upper Canada College, followed by U of T for undergraduate and law school studies.  He was called to the bar in 1968.  Soon after, Arthur joined IBM Canada as in-house Counsel.  His next appointment was in Paris as Area Counsel Africa, Middle East and Germany.  The family enjoyed this time abroad and travelled extensively.  He returned to Toronto as Assistant General Counsel for IBM.  His next move was to Washington, D.C. as Special Assistant to the VP, Government Relations.  He returned to IBM in Toronto as General Counsel in 1983.  He was appointed Vice President in 1991 and assumed the title of VP, Law & Corporate Relations and served as a member of the Board and Executive Committee.  His list of professional accomplishments included: the Distinguished Service Award from the Ontario Bar Association (1991), long-time member of the Canadian Bar Association Corporate Counsel Group and Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (2000).  Arthur retired in 2001.

In retirement, Arthur and Judy travelled the world and relished time with family and friends.  He was an avid golfer and a regular at the Granite Club gym.  He was also a diehard sports fan, and particularly loved his Blue Jays.  He was fiercely protective of his family and unabashedly proud of his children and grandchildren.  Judy was his rock.  She loved and cared for him day in and day out until the very end.

Many thanks to the Sunnybrook Oncology Department as well as the incredibly caring Palliative Care Team of doctors, nurses and caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making an online donation to: The Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care at www.tlcpc.org.
