Halwa StelaHALWA, Stella Catherine  - Born on April 20, 2019, in small town Vegreville Alberta, Stella Catherine Halwa, gracefully, peacefully and with tremendous inner strength, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at The Russell Hill Retirement Residence in Toronto.

Predeceased by her loving husband Ted in 2003.

Mother of four children Roseann Penhallegon [predeceased], Jane Adams, Ted Halwa and Arlene Madell, three sons-in-law Ralph Rothstein, Robert Penhallegon and Ian Madell, four grandchildren William and Douglas Penhallegon, James Madell, Zachary Hibbert-Halwa and five great grandchildren Lucas, Noah, Sophie, Harrison and Alex Penhallegon.

A long-time resident of Oakville, Ontario, Stella was an exceptional cook and entertainer; a world traveler with her beloved husband of 61 years; a prolific artist and a consummate reader. Walking was an indelible part of her DNA, walking regularly - rain, wind and cold - for over 60 years well into her late nineties.

Recently, celebrating her 100th birthday with dear friends and family, Stella was a kind hearted and generous woman. She was engaging, thoughtful, and witty her entire life!

As a wise man once said: “Youth is a gift of nature, but age is a work of art…” Truly, our dearest mother—a life well-lived.

The family particularly wishes to thank her caregivers and the staff at The Russell Hill Retirement Residence for their sensitive care and kindness in the final days of her life.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, July 26, 2019 at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto.
