Rodgers WalterRODGERS, Walter Allen - Walter Allen Rodgers passed away on January 28, 2020 at River Glen Haven Nursing Home, in Sutton, Ontario.

He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Rodgers.

He was loving father to Myrna Armstrong (deceased), Diane (Jim) Kilpatrick, Lyle (Donna) Rodgers, Lynn (Clayton) Bales, Cheryl-Ann (Doug) Greenwood, Tannis (Dan) Pegg.

Grandfather to Sam Armstrong (deceased), Roy Armstrong, Lyle Armstrong, Luke Kilpatrick, Amber Marques, Laurence Rodgers, Melissa Hillier, Kendra Bales, Cari-Ann Stewart, Emily Greenwood, Tennille Pegg, Kayla Cicman.

Great-grandchildren Hannah and Addison Stewart, Eden and Xavier Marques, Ivy and Locklyn Cicman, Madison Armstrong, Mia Kilpatrick.

Walter grew up on a farm near Charlton, in Northern Ontario. He learned to operate and repair farm equipment and the family vehicles at an early age. His mechanical abilities kept him employed throughout his working years and allowed him to provide for his large family. He worked on the railway, in a mine, and as a mechanic, welder and heavy equipment operator. The job he enjoyed the most was digging ponds with his own drag line shovel, which is today a lost skill. To keep his machinery running, Walter had to at times fabricate or rebuild a broken part.

Throughout Walter’s life he had a love of music, primarily country and bluegrass. He played the guitar and violin and wrote some of his own songs. In the mid 60’s he formed a band called the Country Ramblers. There were many good memories of playing for parties in the local area with friends Bert Coughlin, Wally Hare and Tony Baylis.

Walter and Myrtle had a cottage on Lake Dalrymple where they loved to fish and watch the wildlife. They also owned many different RV’s and travelled to Florida to spend the winter months. They had a great network of friends in the campgrounds and parks where they played music and socialized.

When they could no longer travel due to health issues, they still enjoyed their park home near Sutton, Ontario.
Walter had been waiting this past year to join the love of his life. His wait is now over. He is with her now in their log cabin, together forever.

Arrangements with Taylor funeral home, Newmarket.  Interment at Queensville Cemetery on Wednesday February 5th at 2 pm. Celebration of Life will be scheduled for date in Spring 2020.

The Family requests that any donations be directed to the CNIB.
