DaCosta IrvingDaCOSTA, Irving Sylvester - Irving, aka Irvine, was born May 23, 1923 in Port Royal Jamaica to Sidmoth Mendez DaCosta and Bernice Eloise Dowie.

He passed April 23, 2020 a month short of his 97th birthday while residing at the Altamont Long-Term Care Home in Scarborough, Ontario.

He worked as a Seaman on various ships, eventually settling down in England for over 60 years. There he worked with Mallards Radio making thermionic vacuum tubes and later with Ford Motor Company on the assembly line from which he retired. The past 3 years he resided in Toronto where he had visited for many summers, but always made sure he returned to England before the arrival of Fall.

We were blessed to have had him spend one Christmas.

He was quite a traveller, and on one of his later trips, he spent time in Toronto and then on to Vancouver to visit his granddaughter and her family before returning to England. At that time he was in his 80’s and not showing any signs of slowing down. In England He lived in his Flat on his own until November 2016 before finally moving to Toronto.

He enjoyed cricket and actually lived near the Oval Cricket grounds in London only 5 minutes from his Flat. He was an armchair politician and was always interested in news from around the world.

He is survived by 3 children: Sonia (Ansel) Julette and Stafford (Jamaica), three grandchildren: Dwight (Kelly) Tania (Mark) Shannon, five great grandchildren: Roshan, Spencer, Tekarah, Marley, and Harris. Sisters Ina Beverley (deceased), Adelyne Morrow (deceased). Irving will always be remembered by many nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews.
