Woods MichaelWOODS, Michael David - Passed away peacefully on Friday June 5, 2020 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, age 66.

Loved and deeply missed by his husband, Alan Barber, his sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Doug Weir of London and his sisters-in-law, Sue Woods of Sarnia, and Janice and Kathy Barber of London.

Missed also by his five nieces and nephews and their families: Lori Koolen (Mike), Geoff Woods (Lesley) and Andrew (Gillian), Tara (Ram) and Lucas (Claire) Weir.

Predeceased by his parents, Bob & Grace Woods and his brother Gary (2012).

Michael grew up in London, attending Mountsfield PS and South Collegiate, but has lived in Toronto since earning a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba in 1976. He was a member of Toronto’s design community in several firms, primarily at POI Business Interiors, Markham. He was a member of ARIDO, and IDC, and was a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor and a member of the Canadian Green Building Council.

Michael had a life long interest in furniture design, weaving, sewing and graphic design. An excellent cook, he loved planning menus with Alan when they hosted the friends in their gourmet dinner group. Their shared passion for live theatre and travel took them on frequent jaunts to New York City, Chicago and the United Kingdom. Michael also had a strong love of horticulture, which in retirement led to his involvement with the East York Garden Club, serving as a board member and newsletter editor.

Sensitive, caring, creative and full of laughter, Michael will be dearly missed, not just by his family, but by his many friends and former colleagues.

The family wishes to thank the staff in the Neurology ICU at St. Michael’s for their care and compassion during the last two weeks of Michael’s life.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Michael’s life will be planned for a time when circumstances allow.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
