Owen SheilaOWEN, Sheila - (1932 - 2020) - It was with deep sadness, with her family by her side, we said goodbye to Sheila, on November 9, 2020.

Born on October 30,1932, in Manchester, England she lost a hard battle with cancer, leaving her husband Eric to mourn, together with her sons, Hugh and Philip, her daughter-in-law Peggy (Hugh) and her grandchildren Liam and Emma.

A longtime resident in Mississauga, she arrived in Toronto in July 1957 where she met her future husband who arrived in Canada, one month later. They married in 1961.

She had a very travelled life, first moving, together with her parents, her three brothers Norbert, Tom and Joseph and elder sister Nora, to Blackpool, during the first year of World War 2. Following her education, at the Convent of the Holy Child Jesus, Layton Hill, Blackpool, she joined her brother’s international toy manufacturer, Casdon Bros.Ltd.

During that employment she had the urge to join the Hotel industry. While working at a small hotel in Blackpool, she was offered an opportunity to join a large London Hotel Group. She accepted it, moving to England’s Capital City, where she lived for a few years. Later, she emigrated to Canada, living in Toronto, employed by the King Edward Hotel in Downtown Toronto, working on their Front Desk.

Hard work came easy to her and as a sideline she created a book-keeping service. One of her clients was the Ambassador Travel Agency in Port Credit, which she eventually purchased and spent many years providing travel services for many local businesses and residents. Before selling the Agency and retiring in 2002, her family enjoyed travel, all across the World.

After marriage she and her husband Eric purchased a house in Clarkson, eventually moving to Mineola. Following retirement, they moved to the Fairways Condominiums on Dixie Road.

Sheila, in retirement, using ink pens, enjoyed meeting the challenges of any Crossword puzzle. She was very independent, both proud and private, a strong woman who lived life on her own terms.

In accordance with Sheila’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements with Skinner and Middlebrook funeral home, Mississauga. In consideration of the COVID-19 environment a private funeral service will be held for the family, in Port Credit. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date due to the current limitations.

If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please support your local hospital.
