Kegel HendrikKEGEL, Hendrik Willem "BILL"   - On May 29, 2021, Hendrik Willem "Bill" Kegel, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord at the age of 87.

Bill was born on November 20, 1933 in Berkel en Rodenrijs, Holland.

At a young age, Bill was touched by the kindness of Canadian soldiers during WWII and this influenced his decision to come to Canada at the age of 18.

He began working for Sheridan Nurseries in Toronto and did so until he and his young family moved to Orangeville.

He and his wife built Dufferin Garden Centre in 1974 and resided there until after their three girls were married.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Geraldine (née Grit), his daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Andrew Kieft of Guelph, ON, Valerie and Arnold Sikkema of Langley, BC, and Lisa and Brian Vanderhout of Hamilton, ON.

He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jonathan Van Tol (Clara and Lillian), Evan, Renee, and Corinna Kieft; William and Ashley Sikkema, Kristin and Paul Robinson (Dorothea and Dominic Willem), Nadine Sikkema; Laura and Andrew Bosscher, (Jaimee), Marlaina and Scott Post (Maizie and Josie), Bradley Vanderhout and Ashley Nienhuis.

Predeceased by his parents, Jan Pieter Kegel (deceased 1983), Cornelia Kaiser (deceased 1938), step-mother Cornelia Maryke Kruithof (deceased 2000) and six siblings, and an infant grandson, Alan Kieft (1992).

Survived by six brothers and sisters. Bill will also be missed by his brothers- and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Bill was well known for his love of God's creation.

He enjoyed many hours with a great-grandchild on his lap reading books. His love for scripture and his Heavenly Father provided a legacy to be carried on!

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, June 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at COVENANT CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 480 Woolverton Road, Grimsby where the Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 10 a.m., Rev. John Louwerse officiating. Interment to follow in Orangeville at 1 p.m.  Due to the pandemic restrictions please register for a visiting time using the SignUp app on the website obituary or call the funeral home at 905-689-4852. The Funeral and Interment Service are restricted on-site to the immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by Anchor Home https://anchor-association.com/donations/ .

Special thank you to Dr. Harlock and Dr. Szalay at the Hamilton General for their expert and compassionate care over the past decade, and the emergency and ICU staff at West Lincoln Memorial in his last hours.
