Christo MaryCHRISTO, Mary (nee ARGIROPOULOS)   - 1920 - 2021 Passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021 at the age of 101.

Mary was a devoted and beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Predeceased by husband Kiro (1978) and daughter Virginia (2006).

She will be forever missed by her loving son Chris (Linda) and son-in-law James Nicolaou, her grandchildren Cassandra (Arland), Paul (Cindy), Mara (Stephen), Sabrina and Caitlynn, and her great-grandchildren Corson, Mary, Carter, Virginia, Beatrice and Florence.

Born in Oschima, Greece, Mary was one of eight children.

Her arrival in Toronto on March 25, 1939 was featured in full page articles in both the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail. Her pre-war journey became a human interest story of "childhood sweethearts" reuniting at last.

In fact Mary had never met Kiro but the journalists told their own version, complete with photos of Mary and Kiro happily embracing. Only 19, Mary quickly settled into her new life, picked up English easily, and spent many years working alongside Kiro at The Biltmore Grille in New Toronto while raising her two children in the apartment above.

Mary was a dedicated homemaker, breadwinner and caregiver. Boasting conversational skills in five languages, she had a magnetic personality and was a wonderful listener. She was a fantastic cook, and loved to dance, sunbathe and watch the Raptors.

Mary fostered close relationships with all her grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives.

Her caretaking didn't stop there. When her daughter Virginia struggled with the debilitating challenges of Multiple Sclerosis, Mary was a steadfast companion and caretaker until the end.

A private funeral service will be livestreamed and held on Friday, June 4, 2021.
