John Walker
October 10, 1940 - November 22, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Walker at the age of 84, on November 22, 2024, in Burlington, Ontario. Born on October 10, 1940, in Welling, Kent, England, John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley (née Richardson), and their children Johnny (Karen) and Claire (Ryan). Treasured Grandad to Kelly and Ashley (Chad), Gramps to Libby, and Great-Grandad to Grace. Predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth, and brother Douglas.
John grew up in Kent, cherishing family vacations by the sea in Ramsgate and fond memories in Ide Hill with Uncle Jack, Aunt Lil, and cousins. At 21, John met the love of his life, Shirley, and their love story began. A passionate pianist, soccer enthusiast, and proud supporter of West Ham United Football Club, John brought joy to many lives.
In 1971, John and his family emigrated to Canada, settling in Burlington, where he made lasting friendships, joined the Burlington Centaurs Rugby Club, and shared his musical talents. Later in life, he was a proud member of the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus, performing in renowned venues like Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. John's humor and charisma shone through his participation in Toastmasters and his public speaking roles.
In retirement, John volunteered his time playing piano for patients at Joseph Brant Hospital, Tansley Woods retirement home, and Oakville Hospital. He cherished time with his granddaughters, attending their events and creating cherished memories.
A Celebration of Life to honor John will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (alzheimer.ca) would be greatly appreciated.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre.
