Matay WallyMATAY, Waltraud 'Wally' Rose - (30 June, 193010 March, 2021) - It is with great sadness and loving memories that we announce the passing of Wally Matay.

Born in Selb, Germany to the late George and Henrietta Fischer, she had three brothers: Alfred, Ernst, and Max (deceased). After immigrating to Toronto, Canada in her early twenties, she worked at Simplicity Pattern Co. Inc. and the Austrian Club where she met her future husband, Tibor Matay.

Once married, they moved to Cookstown, where they lived for many happy years on their beautiful farm. Together they enjoyed travelling, dancing and entertaining. Wally was a proud and enthusiastic employee at Solty’s Garden Centre until her retirement.

After Tibor’s passing, she moved to Newmarket in 2005, where she lived independently.

Wally leaves behind her loving daughter Edith, son-in-law Michael Swann, and grandson Trevor Swann. She is also sadly missed by family members in Germany, Hungary, the United States, and Ontario.

Wally’s family would like to thank her neighbours and friends for their support and kindness, as well as the wonderful staff members at Southlake Regional Health Centre and Southlake Reactivation Care Centre for their compassion and care.

Wally is to be cremated. There will be no service. Arrangements entrusted with Thompson funeral home, Aurora.

To honour her memory, donations may be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre.

We love you and miss you Mom/Oma. You’ll live on in our memories and in our hearts forever.
