CROSS, Jean Anne   - Also known as JAC for technology usernames and license plates, passed away on March 21, 2021, as a result of heart failure.

Just minutes before potentially life saving surgery, Jean had her three daughters – Carolyn, Susan and Cathy – by her side and was able to facetime visit with every single one of her 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 2 sons-in-law.

Jean was very tech savvy for a 91 year old and was often surrounded by the loving family of which she was the definite matriarch. Jean loved her family and was very proud of them all – her grandchildren in particular were a great source of pride and conversation with the hospital staff looking after her.

Jean was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1929 and at the age of 2, came to Canada on a ship.

Landing in Newfoundland, Jean's family moved to various pulp and paper mill towns, where her father worked, until the family finally settled in Marathon, Ontario.

There Jean spent winters in school and summers picking berries and swimming in Penn Lake with the neighbourhood children.

At age 16, Jean moved, on her own, to Toronto to finish high school, as the school in Marathon only went to grade 9.

After high school, Jean went to secretarial school and it was during her time working in Toronto that she met Murray Cross, the love of her life to whom she was happily married from 1953 until Murray's passing in 2010.

Jean, Mum, GMA, MamaG, AJ, will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

At her request, there will be no funeral, just an immediate family gathering.

Jean's message to all would be to enjoy every day to its fullest. Jean was a strong supporter of Princess Margaret Hospital. In lieu of flowers, any support to PMH would be welcome.
