Smith SandySMITH, Alexander 'Sandy' Ellis - Died at home on April 26, 2021 after 101 years well lived.

A proud Scot with a quick wit and a ready sense of humour, he will be missed.

He leaves his adoring wife Shirley Keating, his daughter Christy and grandchildren Richard, Emma, Catherine, John and Jessica.

He was predeceased by his wife Christina and children Catherine and Alex.

A self made man, he was respected and liked by all who knew him.

Alex began his working life at Buntin Reid Fine Papers and rose through the ranks to lead the firm for many years.

In retirement, he partnered with George Shaw to bring Coast Paper to the east. He was invited to serve on many boards and contributed generously to worthy causes.

As a young man, he volunteered with troubled youth and served as director of Bolton Camp for several years.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed salmon fishing, hunting, golf, his farm in Bethany and more recently with Shirley, travel and weekends in Collingwood.

For those who would like to honour Alex, donations to Medecins Sans Frontieres or Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated.

A private family burial will be held.
