Brookes DougBROOKES, John Douglas 'Doug' - Doug passed on Saturday October 2, 2021 at the age of 88.

Doug’s wife Margaret predeceased him. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Andy (Heather), Nancy, and Jill (Elgar),grandchildren Galen, Adam, Samuel, Eliza, Keenan (Kari), Aaron (Rachel), Niles, Ben, Robyn, Rowen, Katey and great grandchildren Riley and Emily.

Doug began his career as an Electrician becoming head foreman of the Electrical department for the City of Toronto, during that time he purchased property north of Toronto to build the family home with Margaret. He was a strong and independent thinker who always wanted the best for his Family and Community.

Doug became politically active in the early years of the CCF party and NDP party. He served 2 terms as a King Township councillor in ward 5, later was appointed to the Land Division Committee of York Region.

For over 34 years Doug, wife Margaret their 3 kids were the proprietors of the Kettleby General Store, serving the community with groceries, the Kettleby Post Office, fresh pizza, video movies etcetera. Doug's love and passion for his community led him to several years of hard work as the Chairman of the Kettleby Fair Association. Doug enjoyed his last years between his Kettleby Village home and his Lake St.Peter cottage.

Arrangements are entrusted with Thompson funeral home, Aurora. Friends and Family are invited to a celebration of Doug’s life that will take place in the Tyrwhitt Park in village of Kettleby between 1-3 on Sunday October 17th. Refreshments served.
