Termine MariaTERMINE, Maria Carmela (D'Elia) - We mourn the loss of our dear mother and nonna, Maria, who passed on Sunday October 31, 2021. Living with Parkinson’s for several years, she also struggled with a heart condition and required recent hospitalizations.

Although she passed while in hospital, she was able to remain in her own home and with the care of her son Luigi, for these many years. Isolated for months during this pandemic, we were happily able to enjoy a proper 90th birthday celebration; a brunch on her porch with her children, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and their partners.

A Skype call with nieces in and nephews in Italy and Germany made the celebration that much more special.  She was delighted that we were all together.

Our father, Oreste Termine, passed on June 16th 2001.  Together, they bravely immigrated to Canada with their two children Rosa and Luigi in 1963. They built a good life in their new country. They valued tradition and family.

Our mother enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow, and despite language barriers, understanding did prevail. Smiles, hugs and kisses were a main form of engagement; the most important of communications. Memories of Maria are held dear and we are comforted to know that she did not suffer, was well cared for, and was able to enjoy a slightly less restrictive Covid existence over recent months. This allowed the birthday gathering and for Luigi’s company during hospital admissions.

Maria Termine is the last surviving among her five siblings - Maria Rosaria, Maria Giuseppa, Vincenzo, Pietro and Fernando.  She is survived by her nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, daughter Rosa, son Luigi, and son Francesco and his family, wife Marisa and their children, Simon and Perri, and their partners Sophia and Steven.  We so hoped for Nonna to join us in celebrating Simon and Sophia’s October 2022 wedding.  Her glow, her laughter, and her warm smiles will always be with us and she will be forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be held at the Bernardo Funeral Home,Dufferin Chapel, Toronto on Thursday November 4, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday November 5, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church (1037 Bloor Street West). Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private entombment will follow.

The family asks that all guests attending services be fully vaccinated.

Donations in Maria Carmela Termine’s memory may be made to the UHN Foundation or Parkinson Canada.
