Yawney PeterYAWNEY, Peter  - 1933 - 2018  It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Yawney, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 84 years old, at Trillium Health Centre, with loved ones by his side, after suffering a stroke.

Devoted husband to Shirley Yawney.

Loving father of Lori Yawney (Lorne Newell).

Cherished grandfather of Leanne Newell, Elise Newell (Erik Wachman).

Dear and close brother of Walter Yawney (Phyllis, predeceased). Uncle of Sherry (Tommy) and Ed (Meredith). Also grieving his loss are four great-nieces and nephews, and other extended family.

Born in Creighton Mines outside of Sudbury, the son of Ukrainian immigrants, Peter's family eventually moved to Toronto where he became a lifelong resident.

Peter was a strapping young man and a natural athlete. His passion for hockey led him to play for such teams as the St. Mike's Majors in the OHL and later for the Molson Old Timers, where he travelled abroad to play the game.

Peter's charm and welcoming smile lent very well to the advancement in his career, interacting with people as a Sales Executive for Molson Breweries.

Peter had an inclination for creativity which went from building, construction, sculpture, water colour painting, to name a few. He loved fixing and building things, especially for others and was excited at any design challenge always coming up with unique and innovative solutions.

He was an avid golfer and forged many lasting friendships on golf courses across Ontario and in Florida. Peter spent many years as an active member of the Church as well as Knights of Columbus, and served the community with various charitable endeavours through the years.

Peter Yawney was a kind, selfless and generous man, always looking for ways to help others. His wonderful sense of humour, passion for life and eternal optimism touched so many lives. Peter will be dearly missed by those who knew him and forever loved and admired by those closest to him.
