Charlie McLeod

With sadness, the family announces that Charlie McLeod, passed away on Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, at The Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior. He was 91 years of age.

Born in Miramichi, New Brunswick, to the late George and Sara McLeod, Charlie was a hardworking, kind and generous man whose life was marked by a willingness to help others and give back to his community.

Family was a great source of pride for Charlie, and he spoke often and fondly of those he loved. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice (née Benoit), and leaves behind his longtime partner, Beverley Rancourt, with whom he shared many years.

He was the proud father of Julie McLeod (Rob) and Rodney McLeod (Stephanie) and grandfather to Brandon Schubrink (Katie), Ashley Goudreau (Randy), Bridget Morrison (Garrett), Joshua McLeod and Jordan McLeod. He will also be lovingly remembered by his great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as by the Rancourt family, who held a special place in his life.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Gladys Misener (David), and was predeceased by his siblings Fred McLeod, John McLeod, David McLeod and Anna Hetherington.

Together with his late wife, Alice (née Benoit), Charlie owned and operated M & M Transfer. Throughout his working years, he had also been employed with Scheel Windows, Gillies Lumber, drove transport for various companies, and drove a school bus while holding down his other jobs.

Driving the school bus was something Charlie truly enjoyed, and he left a lasting impression on the children who rode with him over the years. On the last day of school, he always took the time to take all the students on the bus to get an ice cream treat at the Dairy Queen.  He is still spoken of fondly with more than a few remembering him simply as the best bus driver they ever had.

Charlie was the kind of person who didn’t think twice about lending a hand.  For Charlie, helping someone who needed him was simply what you did.  He didn’t care who you were or where you came from, his door was always open. Whether you were family, a friend or someone he hardly knew, Charlie would never turn you away.   If you needed a good meal, a place to stay or a helping hand he was right there to offer and of course somewhere along the way there would be a few jokes and a laugh.  He provided a temporary home for foster children and numerous four legged friends over the years.

Charlie was proud to serve his community as a longtime member and Past President of the Arnprior Lions Club, as well as a member of the Arnprior Legion.

Charlie’s life can perhaps best be remembered by his kindness and generosity. He worked hard, loved a good joke and gave what he could even if it meant having to do without himself.

Rest peacefully, Charlie. You will be remembered fondly by the many people whose lives you touched.

A private family innurnment will take place at the Malloch Road Cemetery, Arnprior.
