John Graves

May 18, 1940 – November 30, 2025

Older man smiling, wearing glasses and white shirt.

With great love and deep sadness, the family of John Graves, age 85, announces his peaceful passing on November 30, 2025. Born in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands, John later made his home in St. Catharines, Ontario, where he built a life rooted in dedication, family, and quiet strength.

John was the beloved husband of 59 years to Annie Graves (Steenks). He was a devoted father to Jacqueline Segato and Jason Graves (Taunya), and a cherished Opa to his grandchildren Aaron Graves, Alexandria Segato, Jeremy Graves, Ryan Segato, and Khloe Graves. His family was his greatest joy, and he took immense pride in each of them.

For 36 years, John worked for the St. Lawrence Seaway, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and steady presence. He was also a long and devoted member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church, where his faith and quiet service were central to his life.

John is predeceased by his parents Joris and Johanna Graves (VanMensch); his sisters Joan and Johanna (Graves) Prins and her husband Cornelis; his brothers Jacobus, George, Herman, Wayne, and William; brothers-in-law George Purcell and Bruce Pankhurst; and sister-in-law Jolenta.

He is lovingly remembered by his surviving siblings: Marvin Graves (Terry), Gordon Graves (Verna), Ina O’Hara (Jim), Elisabeth Pankhurst, and Ida Purcell. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Peter Boekestyn, and sisters-in-law Jackie Graves, Sherry Graves, Gertie Graves, and Vera Graves, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him deeply.

John’s life was defined by resilience, kindness, faith, and a steadfast commitment to the people he loved. His presence will be greatly missed, but the memories he leaves behind will remain a blessing to all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Trinity Christian Reformed Church on December 5th, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m.

A Memorial Service will take place on December 6th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at Trinity Christian Reformed Church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue.
