Shirley Marie Reynolds

November 4, 1928 – October 11, 2025

Smiling elderly woman in red jacket with heart necklace.

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering within a month of her 97th birthday. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years and best friend Art Reynolds. Cherished mother to Debbie, Steve (Nancy), Jane (Michael Waddell), and Tracy (Neil Hopgood). Shirley’s love of family shone through when she was with her 7 grandchildren (Nicole, Amanda, Lisa, Emma, Christopher, Connor & Tristin) as well as her 6 great grandchildren (Clara, Quinn, Theo, Elsa, Arnie & Annie).

Shirley was well known in the Clarington area for teaching swimming for over 25 years in the Bowmanville, Orono and Hampton area. Shirley was honoured when she was inducted into the Clarington Sports Hall of Fame special honorary category in 2017 for her contributions.

Shirley shared many passions with her family and friends. During her 50 years in Hampton, Shirley enjoyed giving back to the community including helping with church and youth groups, various fundraising activities, coaching girls softball and running informal fitness classes. During their retirement years in Cobourg and Florida, Shirley enjoyed golf, yoga, dancing, music and creating art of all kinds. Shirley continued to stay active and enjoyed attending numerous programs and activities with her dear Chartwell Harwood friends where she lived for the last 6 years of her life. Those that knew Shirley, appreciated her courage and honesty in sharing her opinions and this continued as Shirley advocated for positive changes at her Chartwell Harwood home.

Shirley’s love of life and family is a legacy that will continue to be felt and reflected in the generations that follow her. She will be dearly missed.

A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
