Passed away on May 26, 2026, at Kelowna General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Andrea “Andi”; his sisters, Rita (Malcolm), Bonnie (Ed), Cheryl, and Kelley; and his brother, Ken.

John David Wallin  was born in Edmonton on August 3, 1939. In addition to being an athlete (who played baseball, hockey, and skied), at the age of 12 John played the cello as a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Although still a teenager, John was proud to have worked on the DEW Line – a special experience for a young man! Returning to Edmonton, John joined the Royal Canadian Navy, then the Edmonton City Police Force. Following this, he was self-employed as a private investigator for over 20 years.

John and Andi loved to travel! Their travels took them to Hawaii, the Orient, and Scandinavia. With retirement came 20 years of RVing across Canada and the U.S. and wintering in Arizona. As John’s health declined, cruising became a wonderful way to see more of the world, and that included Panama, Australia, the Mediterranean, and the Mekong River.

The last few years with limited mobility and other health issues, John became pretty much of a homebody, but he loved sports and rarely missed watching a Blue Jays or an Oilers game. If they weren’t playing, any other sport was fine!

Those fortunate enough to spend time with John, perhaps at the bridge table or over the cribbage board, will attest to his wit and his wicked sense of humour! He will be missed by all who knew him.

If desired, donations may be made in John’s memory to the KGH Foundation, 2268 Pandosy Street, Kelowna BC, V1Y 1T2.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm (PT), at the Kelowna Springs Golf Club, at 480 Penno Road in Kelowna, BC. Refreshments will be served.
