Celebrating the Journey of Joseph David Day

Died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, surrounded by family. David was a gracious, dignified gentleman who appreciated beauty, music and art. He was a committed family man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at Thunder Beach and Sarasota. He loved being on, in, or near water, bird-watching, a good cashmere sweater, and anything sweet! David played hockey, squash, tennis and was passionate about sailing. David studied at St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall. He had a long career in law. He was an active volunteer with many organizations for decades.

David was the son of Thomas Joseph Day and Marie Angelina Carmen Dupuis Day. Beloved husband and best friend of the love of his life, the late Jean Reay Cundill Day(2016). Brother of Jacques, Gerald (2023, Virginia), Fr. Tom (2010), Blair (Elizabeth). Cherished father of Deborah (Graham), Louise (Robert), Katherine (Rob), Sean, and Jessica (Michael) with former wife Hilary Carr Jones (2024). Stepfather to John David (Sherry), Duncan (Anne), Greg (Lara) Yull. Beloved Grandpa to Kara, Aliza, Theo, Jonah, Adrienne, Eloise, Tristan, Leonard, Chloe, Liam, Emma, Abigail, Andrew, Teddy, Maxwell, Trevor, and Margaret. Great-grandpa to Sidney. Received excellent care from his devoted caregivers, Jeanette and Lenin.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11, at St. Gabriel’s Passionist Parish, 670 Sheppard Ave E (North York), at 10:00 am in the parish Gathering Space. Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
