DAVIS, Shirley Anne Davis

November 5, 1934 - May 23, 2026
DAVIS, Shirley Anne Davis

She was 91, of Stratford passed away at Hillside Manor on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Born in Stratford on November 5, 1934, daughter of the late Ross and Marguerite (Aldworth) McClellan and big sister to Stan (Kay, 2011) of Tobermory and Don (Karen) of Orangeville. Beloved wife of the late (William) Bill Davis (1998). Loved mother of Scott (Linda) of Waterloo, Brian (Sherry) and Mark, both of London. Cherished grandmother of Sara (Scott & Linda), Colleen (Presley) & Greg (Olivia) (Brian & Sherry) and Nathan & Azula (Mark). A special aunt to Don and Karen’s children, Kurtis (Alyne) and Heather (Mike).

Shirley Anne Davis worked with Doug Bell at the firm formerly known as Anderson, Nielson, Bell for the better part of 42 years with time off raising three boys. An active member of the congregation at the former St. John’s United Church, Shirley was often at the church more than she was at home. She sang in St. John’s choirs at all levels for 75 years and was an enthusiastic and contributing member of the United Church Women (which often included dressing up in wacky costumes for UCW bazaars and Christmas markets).

Shirley gifted her time and talents to many worthy causes, particularly her children. Whether it was outfitting them in homemade and often elaborate Hallowe’en costumes or typing post-secondary school essays after church on Sundays, Shirley managed to fit it all in. In her β€˜spare’ time, she helped for many years with the Kiwanis Music Festival, the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE), and Friends of the Festival (where she thrived as a tail guide at the costume warehouse).

The Davis family cordially invite friends and relatives to visit with them at Avondale United Church, 194 Avondale Avenue in Stratford on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. and to join in a celebratory memorial service at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Keith Reynolds. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshment in the church hall. Private family interment will take place in Avondale Cemetery that same afternoon.

Special thanks to the very fine management team, doctors, nurses and support staff at Hillside Manor for their exceptional care and compassion during Shirley’s residency. The pandemic was particularly cruel to residents and employees in Long Term Care and the team at Hillside went above and beyond to provide safe, quality care for all their residents.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Avondale United Church or MS Canada and may be made through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
