McFADZEAN, Robert James McFadzean

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the loss of Robert “Bob” James McFadzean, who passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at the Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 72.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Barry and Janet (née Deacon) McFadzean of Fergus, ON; his brother, Bill McFadzean of Palmerston, ON; and his beloved mother-in-law, Sophie Mul of Calgary, AB.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and best friend of 46 years, Christine; his son, Phil of Kelowna, BC; his daughter, Jennifer of Edmonton, AB; his three beautiful grandchildren, Jayden, Selena, and Phoenyx of Edmonton, AB; his “favourite” sister, Mary Fox (Jim) of Halls Lake, ON; his brother, John McFadzean (Dianne) of Seaforth, ON; many nieces and nephews; his faithful cat, Rocky; and many dear friends, including John Burns, Bill Bryan, and Kim Painter.

Bob was born on May 5, 1954, in Fergus, Ontario, and was a journeyman plumber whose strong work ethic and willingness to lend a hand defined both his career and his life. He spent many years working at a hospital in Calgary, where his reliability and dedication were greatly valued. Whether tackling a renovation, fixing something for a neighbour, or helping a friend, Bob was always the first to step forward. If something needed to be done, he was already on it.

Above all, Bob was known as a true gentleman. Honest, caring, generous, and kind, he was a wonderful husband, a devoted father and grandfather, an exceptional neighbour, and a loyal friend. He cared for those around him, providing for his family and offering his time and talents without hesitation. Bob especially treasured the time he spent with his daughter, Jen, and her children, who made a point of visiting him regularly over the years. Their love, time, and dedication meant more to him than words could express. His beautiful spirit touched many lives and will be remembered always.

Bob had a lifelong love of sports, both playing and watching. Coming from a family of swimmers, he especially enjoyed spending time in the water. Curling was another passion, and he proudly curled with his family at the Fergus Curling Club. He also enjoyed countless games of cribbage and cards with family and friends.

Some of Bob’s happiest memories were made outdoors. Family fishing and camping trips created traditions that will be treasured forever, and every year he looked forward to attending the Rock Creek Fair with his family. He loved entering his baking in the fair, and it became a cherished family tradition filled with laughter and good times. It was also at the Rock Creek Fair that Rocky, the family’s beloved cat, found his forever home.

Bob took great pride in creating comfortable homes for his family, personally renovating both their Calgary and Kelowna houses. He also had a unique hobby, collecting miniature liquor bottles from around the world. Over the years, his collection grew to nearly 1000 bottles and became a source of great enjoyment.

Following a stroke later in life, Bob found strength and friendship through a local stroke survivor support group, where he faithfully attended every Thursday. The friendships and encouragement he found there meant a great deal to him and enriched his later years.

Although it is never easy to say goodbye to someone we love, we find comfort in knowing that Bob is now at peace, free from pain and suffering. His kindness, strength, sense of humour, and unwavering love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. At a later date, his family will gather to spread his ashes on a lake where they shared many happy days fishing together.
