LAKEN, John Van Laken
December 10, 1936 - July 6, 2026
Its with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Van Laken on July 6th 2026, at the age of 89.
Dear husband of 66 years to Gail Laken. Father to Lynn Symons (Roy) and Robert Laken. Grandfather of Scott Bellofiore. Survived by his sister Maria Dorpmans from Dundas and sister in law Joan Laprise from London. Uncle to Bert Doprmams (Deb) and Shelley Said (John). Also a special grandfather (great) to Stephanie, Chris, Lucas and Jackson Prieur and Krystyn and Annabelle Symons. Best friends of Pam and Bill Robinson.
John came to Canada from Holland at age 13 with his family. In 1961 he set up his Chartered Accountant practice with Eldon Richardson on Queen Street in Chatham. He continued on his own at the office, until eventually moving the practice to his home. Finally, after much pushing from his family, he gave up his practice at age 82. Even in his last years, he still kept up with the tax rules.
John was a golfer and a long time member of Maple City Country Club. He enjoyed many years with Gail, traveling to Florida for the winter months.
He spent his last years at Chartwell St. Clair Beach and was loved by all the staff. He was also a member of Tecumseh United Church.
Cremation has taken place (including his adding machine tape). A celebration of life is planned for the near future. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Windsor Chapel – Banwell Location (11677 Tecumseh R. East, Windsor, ON)
