WINKLE, John Fredrick Winkle

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Fredrick Winkle on July 22, 2026, his 71st birthday.

John was predeceased by his parents, Jack Winkle and Phyllis Cosburn; his brothers, Bob Winkle and Jim Bismayer; his loving parents-in-law, Stuart and Kathleen Kennedy; and his brothers-in-law, Patrick and Michael Kennedy.

John will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Maureen Winkle (nΓ©e Kennedy), and his loving daughter, Krysti-Lyn, who was his pride and joy.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his in-laws, John Kennedy, Tim Kennedy (Lorraine), and Kelly Kennedy-Moore (John); his nieces and nephews, Connor Kennedy (Sarah), Carly Kennedy, Fergus Moore, Owen Moore, and Serena Moore; and his grand-nephew, Beau Kennedy.

John was truly the salt of the earth: honest, humble, dependable, and genuinely kind-hearted. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family and in the work he did throughout his life. Earlier this year, he retired due to health challenges after many years of dedicated service.

Although John studied landscaping, he eventually found his calling in the grocery business. Most recently, he worked at Longo’s, where he spent 14 years surrounded by coworkers he considered friends and looked forward to seeing each day. His strong work ethic, friendly nature, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

When he wasn’t working, John enjoyed reading about history and was always eager to learn something new about the past. He was also a long-suffering but loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays, supporting his teams through every high and low with unwavering dedication.

John’s quiet strength, loyalty, and caring heart touched many lives. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and devotion to family that will never be forgotten.

The family invites those who knew and loved John to leave a fond memory or message of condolence on this page.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, with details to be announced.
