MASTERSON, Ronald Victor Masterson

He left this world on July 22, 2026, just as many who knew him would have expected—listening to his favourite disco music with the love of his life, Donna (Cochrane), by his side. If there was ever a fitting soundtrack to a life well lived, that was it.

Ronald Victor Masterson was a man who believed life was meant to be enjoyed, whether that meant behind the wheel of his beloved 1969 Pontiac GTO, at the poker table, tending to his backyard, or flipping burgers on the grill for family and friends. If you knew Ron, you probably have a story that starts with, “Remember when…”—and chances are, it ends with laughter.

He is survived by his siblings David, Sharon and brother-in-law Craig (Lesley) as well as several nieces and nephews. Also his devoted wife of 40 wonderful years, Donna, whose life was filled with countless adventures alongside him. Together they shared cruises, road trips, evenings spent dancing, and quiet moments on their back deck enjoying a cold drink and each other’s company.

Ron was a proud father to Ron Jr. (Sherry), Denise, Darryl, T.J., and Carmyn. He was also a loving grandfather to Juno, Jax, and Beatrice, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Anyone who knew Ron knew about “the GTO.” His 1969 Pontiac GTO wasn’t just a car—it was part of who he was. He raced it, won with it, and never stopped dreaming about the day he’d slide back behind the wheel one more time.

When he wasn’t talking cars, Ron could often be found in his workshop, where a pile of lumber became birdhouses, backyard benches, and countless other creations built with patience, skill, and a little stubborn determination. His backyard was his sanctuary—a place where he loved to spend his time surrounded by the things he built and the people he loved.

Ron also had a competitive streak that served him well on the baseball field, at the dartboard, and especially around the poker table. Among his fellow players, he earned the nickname “Old Vegas,” a title he wore with pride and just enough confidence to make everyone wonder if he was holding those aces again.

Ron had a way of making people feel at home. Whether you’d known him for decades or had only recently met him, he had an easygoing nature, a quick wit, and a knack for making ordinary moments memorable. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that those who loved him will continue sharing for years to come.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in imagining Ron once again behind the wheel of his GTO, the disco music turned up, the sun shining, and an endless open road ahead.

He was deeply loved, and he will be terribly missed by everyone fortunate enough to know him—even if only for a little while.
