WOOD, Ted Wood
June 21, 1951 - August 14, 2026
Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Oak Ridges Hospice, Port Perry on Friday August 14, 2026. Loving husband to Nancy (nee Wandless) of 50 years. Loving dad of the late Adam (2016), Caitlin Wood (Ryan Staples) and Eric Wood (Jen). Cherished Pappy of Oscar, Marigold, Jacob and Audrey. Also missed by his brother Ken Wood (Anne), predeceased by his sister Linda McCann (Charles), and missed by many nieces and nephews.
Ted Wood had a big presence and was involved in many community organizations within Uxbridge. He was often seen coaching his children’s soccer and baseball teams and cheering at the sidelines with a huge smile. He had been involved in Uxperience for over ten years, involved in leading youth groups at Trinity United Church, and involved in the Uxbridge Scouts for roughly 20 years.
Ted was a self-taught nature enthusiast, avid camper, and canoeist, and loved helping to inspire others to respect nature and ‘leave no trace’. Ted would do anything to support his kids. Whether it was being the adult chaperone at punk rock shows when his kids were teenagers or driving 2+ hours to drop one off at a Provincial Park trail head. He did so without complaining (to them), with a smile, and a fresh mug of coffee. After the loss of his eldest son (Adam), Ted’s involvement in community functions paused, he stayed closer to home and picked up new woodworking hobbies and projects around the house. In the last few years nothing has made him happier than his grandchildren. He would light up when he saw them in ways that he hadn’t for years, and spent hours on end building them toys, kitchen helpers, and kicksleds to enjoy for years to come. Ted had a big heart, cared deeply about his family and his community, always pushed the joke a little too far, laughed with his full belly and will be greatly missed.
