WINTER, Valerie Winter
May 23, 1937 - August 6, 2026
It is with profound sadness that the family of Valerie Joan Winter (West) announces her passing on August 6, 2026 at the age of 89. Valerie leaves behind her loving husband of 71 Years Arnold as well as her sisters Merla (Tony) (deceased) Gerrits and Dianne (John) Hawryszko and brother-in-law Reg Ward.
Valerie was a devoted mother of 8 children, Debbie (Dave) Glover, Ron (Lorie) Winter, Ray (Annette) Winter, Kathy (deceased) Len (deceased) Bahen, Shelley (Terry) Drysdale, Wendy (Jim)Boll, Randy (Heidi) Winter and Rick (Isabel) Winter. She was a loving and generous Grandma to 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, who will miss her very much.
Valerie was born in Grafton, Ontario and grew up as a Miller’s daughter. She met and married Arnold and eventually they made farming in Ontario their life’s work. She gave of herself by keeping her husband, 8 children, and many farm Hands and friends of the kids fed, which in itself was a monumental job. She was a proud hockey mom and spent many years as a 4H leader in the Temperanceville and Queensville areas.
She loved gardening, quilting and baking and volunteering in her community Churches in Temperanceville, Queensville, Colborne and Uxbridge. When they moved to Uxbridge in 1999, she became involved in the UCW at Trinity United Church. She was a very active, committed member who helped with fundraising which involved Luncheons, Beef and Turkey Suppers, the Annual House Tour and making lap throws for the prayer shawl ministry. This was reflected in her 12-year tenure as president of the UCW and her position on the church Board as their representative.
We will remember our Mom/Grandma as the rock of our family with her contagious smile and caring demeanor. She had the ability to accept everyone just as they are. She had a special bond with family pets over the years and always thought the best Holstein cow in show was the one with the prettiest eyes. She made friends easily and if you were at her home during meal time there was always another seat at the table just for you. She will be missed immensely.
