It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of Doreen Ann Shumay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and sister on May 15, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on April 15, 1936, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Doreen lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
She has now been reunited with her dear husband John, her parents Oleksa and Kateryna Horback, and her cherished sisters Elaine Ecalbarger and Texsey Turberfield.
Doreen’s memory will be forever treasured by her children Dale (Sheila) Shumay, Cindy (Tom) Nelson, and Tammy (Troy) Kruger; her grandchildren Billi-Jo Shumay, Chad (Kristy) Shumay, Jayden Nelson, Joshua Kruger, and Dane Shumay; and her great-grandchildren Jordyn, Bentlee, and Cali Shumay; and her beloved sister Bonnie Rombough.
Doreen will be deeply missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her warm heart, her kindness and her wonderful sense of humor. Today, tomorrow, and all our lives through, we will love, remember and cherish you.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., located at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service (see below); a recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Doreen’s memory.
