It is with happy memories and hearts full of love that we announce the passing of Joan Bouckley (Shields) on June 3, 2025. Predeceased by her husband Douglas, son Stephen and son-in-law Henry Russell. Remembered lovingly by her children Bonnie, Brent and Barry (Heather). Joan will be missed dearly by her grandchildren, Isaac (Valerie) and Lea. She also leaves behind a loving extended family and many friends, especially those in her community at Traditions of Durham where she lived for many years.
Joan was a people person, making friends wherever she went. She often said, “People are like books I haven’t read yet” and she lived by that, listening and sharing the stories of everyone she met. Joan loved spending time at the cottage, where she could be found reading, knitting, crocheting, or playing a competitive game of Scrabble (with a dictionary handy). She had a love for animals, and shared that love with many family pets over the years. Joan always had a green thumb and was proud of her flowers, lovingly tending to an impressive collection of plants even when a proper garden was no longer possible. Even into her nineties, she was sharp as a tack, and stayed up-to-date with current events, and was always happy to talk politics.
Her family thanks the Cedarcroft staff and the Lakeridge Oshawa Supportive Care team for their compassionate care.
A mass will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, June 20th at 11am.
