Peacefully at Southlake Health, Newmarket, Ontario, on August 23, 2026 in her 97th year.
Beloved wife of the late Daniel “Danny” Buhl, former owners of the Kennisis Lake Lodge in Haliburton, Ontario.
Adelheid is predeceased by her brother Gunter Czernitzki, and his wife Ruth, and her sister Margret and her husband Rolf Melchert of Germany, and her sister Heidi and her husband Karl Heinz Epkenhaus of Bradford, Ontario.
Tante Adelheid will be lovingly remembered by her many nephews and nieces and their families in Ontario and Germany and her lifelong friend Marlene Fehn of Toronto, Ontario.
Arriving in Canada in 1966, Adelheid soon found work as a dressmaker and for many years worked with ‘Miss Richardson’ in her boutique on Adelaide Street in Toronto. Those were the days when a lady would order her outfits for an entire season in one go! Once Adelheid met Daniel, she quickly fell in love, not only with him, but with his passion for nature, fishing, hunting and walking in the woods. In fact, they spent their honeymoon in Northern Ontario camping, fishing and picking blueberries. They finally decided to leave the rat race behind and moved to Haliburton in 1980 where they had already built their home, the Kennisis Lake Lodge. It was the perfect spot for them to enjoy the great outdoors. They hosted many parties at the lodge, always the perfect hosts and always serving good food. Most evenings ended with dancing and a glass of schnapps.
Since leaving Haliburton in 2014, Adelheid has loved living at the Renoir in Newmarket, Ontario where she made many new friends and enjoyed all the activities that they offered.
Honouring her wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
