With heavy hearts, we share that Mike Dagenais passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Michael Philip “Mike” Dagenais was born in Ottawa, Ontario and moved to Vancouver, B.C. at the age of six. Mike graduated from Notre Dame high school in Vancouver in 1958, enjoying football and in February of that same year he was invited to attend a Canadian try-out camp for the B.C. Lions football team but respectfully declined. He continued baseball in the CYO league until his early thirties.

In 1961, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Valerie and they had two children. Mike loved cars, so he chose the automotive field and specialized in automatic transmissions. In 2002, they moved to Kelowna. Mike volunteered his time helping evacuees during the 2003 fire storm.

Mike loved to watch his kids and granddaughters play sports and was involved in coaching. Besides enjoying Friday crib games at the Seniors Centre at Sarsons Beach, he liked to tell jokes, go bowling, do puzzles and play cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, cruising and bus trips. He liked golf and his defining moment was getting a hole-in-one at Michaelbrook Ranch!

Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie of 64 years; children Raymond (Nicole), Cheryl (Stephen); granddaughters Michelle (Dave), Tessa, Renée, Karlie and Kiara; step-granddaughter Victoria (Adam); great-granddaughters Malia and Hana; and relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or Ozanam Recovery House.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10:30 AM, at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Rd., Kelowna, BC. A reception will follow the service. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service (see below), a recording will be made available to view in 3-5 days.
