It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of James Roderick MacGregor of Renfrew, Ontario who died peacefully on Thursday May 21, 2026. Born on March 17, 1932, to Roy and Isabel MacGregor, Jim grew up on the Triple Oaks farm in Douglas, Ontario. He graduated from Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph and spent many years farming as well as teaching high school at Renfrew Collegiate. He served on Bromley Township Council, worked for Kevin Dick at Barclay Dick and Son; taught skiing to young students and particularly enjoyed skiing with some of his grandchildren. He built a log cottage on the Bonnechere River with his family and had another cottage built in Nova Scotia on the LaHave River. He and Mary enjoyed many trips to the ocean in his Cape LaHave Lobster boat and enjoyed visiting his brother in law Peter Feindel in Florida to fish on the ocean.
His passion for family history and genealogy resulted in many good stories, which he shared with anyone who would listen, he also wrote a book about the MacGregors of Douglas. He and Mary travelled to Scotland twice to visit the Braes of Balquhidder. His sense of humour kept us smiling right up until his last day.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary (Feindel). Dear father of Alex, Anne Freemark, Robert (Mary-Jo), and father-in-law of Kerry and Maureen Whyte. Proud and loving grandfather of Shannon (Michel Villeneuve), Isaac, Maureen (Bob Angell), Sam, Levi, Ian, Mackenzie and Aaron and great-grandfather of Cassidy, Lochlyn, and Isobel.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Jane Whyte, his sister Jean Beauprie, brother Robert MacGregor and brothers-in-law, Donald Beauprie and David Feindel and nephew Adam Feindel. He was very close to his nieces Laura Kollenberg (Klaus), Deidre Feindel, Hilary Feindel and nephews Roderick Beauprie (Liz), Dr. Ian Beauprie (Grianne). He enjoyed much fun with many good friends with the M.T.S.C . He will will be fondly remembered by his dear friend Gary Scott. The family would like to thank the staff at Bonnechere Manor, Dr. P. Pinard, Dr. C. Nixon. as well as Jody English, and Bob Prudhomme for their kind and compassionate care.
A funeral will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Renfrew Victoria Hospital – Oncology unit or Trinity St. Andrews United Church, Renfrew. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Goulet Funeral Home.
